Mission
We are not the biggest. We just pay attention. Every bag is a variety, a country, a farm and a date
Principle
If we don't want to drink it ourselves, it doesn't go on sale
01 / The task

From "just good coffee"
to a brand with character

Context

Profile Coffee is the roastery of its founder, Anton Karpov. 12 years behind the bar and the roaster: barista championships, Q-grader training in Colombia, his own roasting business launched in 2020. By 2024: 8 active lots, a subscription, courses, and wholesale supply to 40+ coffee shops in three cities. The brand grew organically, without a clear platform or written positioning.

Problem

The product was excellent, but the communication was scattered. The website said one thing, the packaging another, social media a third. Buyers did not understand why they should pay ₽1,200–1,400 for 250 g when the supermarket sells it for ₽400. The brand was not explaining its value.

Goal

Develop a brand platform: positioning, mission, values, TOV and communication rules. Give the team one shared language for talking to the audience on the website, on packaging, on social media and at cuppings.

Solution

I ran in-depth interviews with the team and analysed competitors and the audience. I developed the positioning "Coffee with names", with openness about origin as the core value. I wrote the mission, the 4 brand pillars, the TOV and the communication principles.

02 / Brand story

12 years, from the cup
to direct contracts

2014
The first cup of specialty
Anton Karpov starts working as a barista in Moscow and comes across specialty coffee for the first time. He realises the market splits into "coffee as a drink" and "coffee as a product with a story".
2017
Q-grader and the first cupping in Colombia
He earns the international Q-grader certificate, a qualification held by fewer than 7,000 people worldwide. He travels to a farm in Nariño and sees production from the inside for the first time.
2020
Launch of Profile Coffee
The first 1 kg roaster appears in the back room of a coffee shop. The name "Profile" comes from the roast profile, the temperature curve that sets the character of each lot. The first 50 customers are friends from the barista community.
2022
His own roastery. Diedrich IR-12
A move to a production space on Varshavskoye Highway. A professional Diedrich IR-12 roaster. The first contracts with coffee shops: wholesale supply in Moscow.
2024
Direct trade: direct contracts
Direct contracts with farmers in Colombia, Ethiopia and Honduras. That means knowing the farmer by name, understanding the specific lot and paying a fair price, without three middlemen.
2026
Today
8 active lots. A subscription for home buyers. Courses, from beginner level to Q-grader preparation. Wholesale supply for 40+ coffee shops in three cities. Cuppings every Friday.
03 / Positioning

Openness as a
competitive advantage

"Coffee with names": we know the farmer's name, the farm, the growing altitude and the harvest day. And we talk about it honestly, without shop-window descriptions.
01
Origin is a fact
Yirgacheffe, Nariño, Nyeri are specific regions and specific farms, more than nice words on a bag. We write it as it is: what kind of coffee it is and what came out of the roast.
02
A fair price with no premium for image
₽1,200–1,400 for 250 g is what the quality costs; the brand adds nothing on top. We explain what makes up the price: direct trade, small batches, fresh roasting twice a week.
03
Being a small roastery is a strength
We are not trying to feed the whole country. Every lot is one person's decision. Anton tastes every batch before it ships. If he doesn't like it, it doesn't go on sale.
04 / Mission and values

Four brand
pillars

"Roast every lot so that it shows what the farmer and nature intended"
Profile Coffee brand mission
◎
Honesty
We write it as it is: the farm, the farmer, the profile, what came out. We won't promise "dark chocolate notes" if they are not in the cup.
⊘
Quality without compromise
Specialty score 85+. If we don't want to drink it every morning ourselves, it doesn't go on sale. No exceptions.
◈
Direct contact with the source
Direct trade with farmers in Colombia, Ethiopia and Honduras. We go to cuppings, know people by name and pay a fair price.
◇
Education as a value
Open cuppings on Fridays. Courses from beginner to Q-grader. A newsletter with notes instead of ads. We share what we know for free.
05 / Audience

Three segments,
one language

B2C
The curious buyer
Aged 25–40. Has tried specialty but doesn't know the finer points yet. Wants to understand why this coffee costs ₽1,400. Values explanations without snobbery. Ready to subscribe if the first order goes well.
PRO
The professional barista
Works in a coffee shop or behind a bar. Knows what a V60, an AeroPress and a blend are. Looking for a reliable supplier with predictable quality and honest lot data. Trusts Q-graders and championships.
B2B
The coffee shop owner
A small or medium coffee shop in Moscow or the regions. Needs a steady wholesale supplier with same-day delivery in Moscow, flexible logistics and the option of staff training.
06 / Tone of Voice

How the
brand talks

We say
  • Specific: "Bensa farm, 1,950 m altitude, natural process"
  • Honest: "This lot came out with more body and less acidity"
  • Simple: we explain terms for a smart person, not for a connoisseur
  • With character: the brand has a point of view, and we don't hide it
  • Unpretentious: we are a small roastery and proud of it
We don't say
  • "An exquisite blend with notes of dark chocolate and tiramisu"
  • Snobbery: "real coffee doesn't come from a vending machine"
  • Empty promises: "the best coffee in Moscow"
  • Corporate speak: "our team strives for excellence"
  • Vague: "a quality product at an affordable price"

The visual system is built on the contrast between a white background and a dark blue accent. Rule: the accent colour never covers more than 10% of the canvas. A monospaced typeface for data, prices and labels. Minimal decoration, plenty of white space.
